The Australian College of Psychological Medicine was formed by, and for medical practitioners who have an interest in treating patients with psychological problems.

The Australian College of Psychological Medicine membership consists of General Practitioners and specialists from a variety of disciplines all with an interest, and in many cases with special skills, in mental health.

Individuals who are not medical practitioners or who are working outside Australia are welcome to participate in College activities by joining as “Friends” of the College. Friends of the College are entitled to all the benefits of membership with the exception of the right to vote at College meetings or to hold office.

The College aims to provide a wide peer support network, educational resources and opportunities, and a body to promote the interests of these practitioners to government and other authorities. It encourages self-care for doctors who counsel, community awareness of the doctor's role in mental health, and supports research in the area of psychological medicine.
